About WhatFormat

WhatFormat is a free, online WhatsApp message formatter that lets you write beautifully formatted messages using a familiar rich-text editor — no need to memorise WhatsApp's special syntax characters.

Why We Built It

WhatsApp supports bold, italic, strikethrough, monospace, lists, and blockquotes — but you have to wrap your text in special characters like *asterisks* for bold or _underscores_for italic. Most people either don't know these shortcuts exist or forget the syntax when they need it.

WhatFormat eliminates that friction entirely. You write and format text visually — just like in Microsoft Word or Google Docs — and the tool converts it to WhatsApp's syntax behind the scenes when you copy.

How It Works

  1. Type your message in the editor. Use the toolbar buttons to apply bold, italic, strikethrough, code, lists, or blockquotes.
  2. See a live preview of exactly how your message will look inside a WhatsApp chat — in a realistic phone-frame mockup, updated as you type.
  3. Copy or sendyour formatted message. When you click “Copy,” WhatFormat converts the visual formatting into WhatsApp's markdown syntax and places it on your clipboard. Paste it into WhatsApp, and the formatting renders perfectly.

Privacy-First Approach

Your messages never leave your browser. WhatFormat processes everything locally — there is no server that stores, reads, or transmits your text. The editor, the preview, and the copy action all happen entirely on your device.

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand general traffic patterns (page views, which tools are popular), but we never collect the content of your messages. Auto-saved drafts are stored in your browser's local storage and can be cleared at any time.
